賢治の生前に出版されたただ一つの童話集『注文の多い料理店』の巻頭におかれた作品。

賢治自身が添えた広告文には「必ず比較をされなければならないいまの学童たちの内奥からの反響です」とあります。

CDには日本語版（原作）と英語版を収録、越後谷氏は花巻市の近隣湯田町出身の声優、

Matthews 氏は録音のためにロンドンからお招きしました。

絵本は李禹煥氏による墨書ふうの抽象画でつくられています。

he kept on imagining Wildcat's meowy grin, the scene at this supposedly bothersome trial and so on,

山猫のにやあとした顔や、そのめんだうだといふ裁判のけしきなどを考へて、

and didn't get to sleep until really late.
